Kara and Chadwick have been together since high school, but did not have any professional portraits of themselves to share with friends and family. They were looking for a few simple, outdoor portraits with some fall colors. I suggested this arched bridge I recently came across at the Beaverdam Creek Battlefield Park in Mechanicvsille, VA. We chose a cool, fall morning before the sun sat too high in the sky to create a few fun memories.
I only wanted to use natural light, so I positioned Kara and Chadwick on the bridge with the sun to their backs, which eliminated harsh shadows on their faces. We shot a few frames in this location and tried a few different poses. These are a couple of my favorites.
As we were about to leave, I noticed the morning sun creating a colorful reflection in the lazy creek. I had the couple run across the bridge to the other side of the water to shoot a bit of an unconventional portrait. I tried a couple of different angles, but the shot below turned out to be my favorite. I think it tells a fun little story while leaving a little to the imagination as well. Hopefully you think so, too.
Thanks again for the exciting morning, Kara and Chadwick, and I’m glad you love your photos!
